Election of Student Members to the Senate 2024/2025 (UG – BUS, COMM, SCA, SCE, SCI, SCM and RPg Election)

This Election exercise will elect six undergraduate members from BUS, COMM, SCA, SCE, SCI & SCM and one representative for research postgraduates. The members’ term of office will commence from 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2025. Please click here to know more about the Candidates.
*The Council of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) approved the proposal to consolidate the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences on 19 March 2024. To avoid confusion, the election of the undergraduate student representatives for ARTS and SOSC would not be taken place in this exercise. It would however be arranged in September 2024 when further details of the new faculty are confirmed.
Student Participation in the Senate
The Senate regulates the academic affairs of the University as well as the welfare and discipline of the students. Therefore, it is essential that students are represented so that their views and concerns are properly addressed in the Senate. The Senate has 12 student members, including:
- The President of the Hong Kong Baptist University Student's Union (ex-officio);
- The President of the Postgraduate Association of the University (ex-officio);
- One undergraduate student elected from each Faculty and School;
- One taught postgraduate student elected by all taught postgraduate students; and
- One research postgraduate student elected by all research postgraduate students.
Who can run for the Election?
According to the "Regulations Governing the Conduct of Elections of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Student Member to Senate", a student can run for the Election (i.e. to become a Nominee) if he/she has been properly proposed and seconded for Election and is:
- An undergraduate student of good academic standing (with a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.0) and not under disciplinary probation or approved leave of absence or suspension of studies at the time of nomination
- A postgraduate student of good academic standing (with a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.5, except for Year 1 taught postgraduates (TPGs) who are in their first semester studies) and not under disciplinary probation or approved leave of absence or suspension of studies at the time of nomination, who has been properly proposed and seconded for election
“Undergraduate student” shall mean a person who is registered in a full-time or part-time programme based in Hong Kong, successful completion of which will lead to the award of a Bachelor’s degree by the University.
“Postgraduate student” shall mean a person who is registered in a full-time or part-time postgraduate taught/research programme based in Hong Kong, successful completion of which will lead to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s or Doctoral degree by the University.

Nominations for Election shall only be made by the form provided by the Office of Student Affairs for the purpose.
Type of Student | Requirements to be nominated |
For Undergraduate | Each nomination shall be signed by one proposer and ten seconders, who are undergraduate students from the respective Faculty or School. |
For Postgraduate | Each nomination shall be signed by one proposer and two seconders who are postgraduate students. |
